Insurance Billing

Many clients ask if massage therapists can bill insurance. Massage therapists in Alaska have been able to bill auto accident, workers compensation, and personal injury insurance for many years.

In 2014, a group of dedicated and determined massage therapists introduced a bill in the Alaska Legislature that established a State Board of Massage Therapy. This effort was many years in the making and was largely celebrated by the Massage community. Jill serves on the local American Massage Therapy Association board as the 2nd Vice President and was proud to help get this bill passed.

This translates into the ability for massage therapists who choose to offer the service, to bill private health insurance for massage therapy starting in late Summer or early Fall of 2015!

LifeTouch Massage and Wellness, Ltd is a Blue Cross Blue Shield in-network provider (both Federal and Alaska). We are currently working to become in-network with Aetna and several other insurance companies, however we CAN bill insurances we are not in-network with.

LifeTouch Massage and Wellness, Ltd wants to be sure that your services are most likely to be covered under your benefit plan. In order to do this we ask that all clients who wish to bill their massage must have a prescription for therapy. The prescription needs to have a diagnosis, a frequency and duration included.

While not every insurance plan covers massage, many do. With a Doctor’s referral, massage therapy is often a covered service. Under the “Forms” section of this website is a Referral Form. You can download and print this form to take to your primary care provider or chiropractor. This extra step makes it more likely your insurance will pay for treatment.
